Mentarang

Have u ever seen this kind of seafood?Or have u ever heard his name? MENTARANG. I've seen it, i've heard about it but i've never eaten it b4 since i don't know how to cook it & hard to find it. I was lucky bcoz' i studied at northen state, so i can learn a lot especially about other places food.
I saw this siput mentarang while i was in my friend's bf's house in kuala sanglang, perlis many years ago. At that time, we went to the beach near his house & saw many people was looking for something in the mud on that beach. Actually they were looking for siput mentarang bcoz' that time was its season. It was my first time seeing it since at my hometown, i've never seen it. Pelik but fascinating.
The process to catch it was quite hard bcoz' they have to dig in the mud since mentarang lives in the muddy area.
I love trying new things compared to my hubby. I've no problem tasting different food. So yesterday i went to the market & saw siput mentarang. I bought them & i went home quickly looking for the recipe. Thanx to catz for the various recipe to cook mentarang. I end up making mentarang masak cili api. Lain2 resepi tu next time la but no harm pn jot down skali kt sini so that next time senang nk cari:-)

bahan-bahan:
mentarang
cili api 10 biji (sukatik nak pedas lagi buh le cili banyak-banyak)
halia
serai
bawang merah
bawang putih
santan (aku guna santan kotak..tu jek yg ada.)
serbuk kunyit - lebih afdal guna kunyit hidup
garam

cara masak:
1.keluarkan mentarang dari cengkerangnya..oh agak seram oke proses ni sebab, aku mana pernah jumap benda ni. So tahap kehidupan dia aku tak tau. Mula-mula duk pikir..isk..if dia kepit jari comel aku dgn cengkerang dia....naya je..tapi dont worry. mereka dah mati dah kot. Takde bahaya memegang dan menariknya keluar dari cengkerang.Cuci bersih.
2. tumbuk halia, bawang-bawang semua dan cili api. if suka boleh tambah cili besar sebijik.
3. ketuk serai hingga penyek.
4. tumis sebentar bahan tumbuk dgn sedikit minyak hingga naik bau. Masukkan santan, serbuk kunyit dan biar mendidih.
5. Masukkan mentarang yg dah di cuci tadi.
6.masak le around 6-7 minit....jgn tambah air sebabnya mentarang ni banyak air..so biar je santan pekat-pekat. Mentarang ni akan keluarkan air yg akan menyumbang kepada pertambahan kuah lemak tadi. buh garam.
Angkat dan hidang.

bahan-bahannya:
10 biji mentarang (kena cari pi sekinchan sinun kalau nak masak ni...hiks)
(kuantiti takdelah rigid..kalau nak makan ramai-ramai masak le banyak.kang tak cukup ada yg nangis..hiks).
cili kering kisar - 2 sudu
bawang putih - 2 ulas (tumbuk)
halia - 1 inci (tumbuk)
belacan - 1 inci
sos tiram - 2 sudu
sos cili - 1 sudu
kicap manis - 1 sudu

cara-cara:
1. gaul semua bahan tuh..kecuali mentarang oke. bior sebati..rasakanlah sambal tuh...if suka buh gula sikit ke...garam tak yah..sebab nanti masin sgt.
2. Letak mentarang atas aluminium foil. Buh bahan sos tadi tuh atas mentarang. Gaul-gaul sebati.
3. Bungkus dlm aluminium foil, buh atas grill pan..masak le around 10 minit...
fuhh..aku intai..menggelegak dan tiba2 banjir gitu..mmg mentarang ni banyak air..so bila ko masak air dia keluar.
4. Dah masak hidang lah.makan dgn nasik suam. Kosentret je makan. Gajah lalu pun tak perasan.

Bawang putih - dihiris/ditumbuk
Halia - dihiris/ditumbuk
2 btg serai - dititik
1/2 biji bawang besar - dihiris
Cili api & cili besar - ikut suka (dihiris)
Air
Garam

Cara-cara
1. Tumis bawang putih, bawang merah & halia.
2. Masukkan cili api & cili besar.
3. Masukkan air.
4. Masukkan garam.
5. Bila kuah sudah mendidih, masukkan mentarang.
6. Masak dalam 5-8 minit. Siap.
